Tarraingaíonn WAW mná an chontae le chéile ar bhealach éagsúl chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar shaibhreas agus tallainn i gcontae s’againn. agus atá ag teacht chun tosaigh i nDiaspóra Dhún na nGall agus aird na meán Náisiúnta agus Idirnáisiúnta i mbliana. Tugtar cuireadh do bhancheoltóirí páírt a ghlacadh igceolchoirmeacha agus seisiúnta taifeadta a chuireann cumas s’acu – idir óg agus aosta – chun tosaigh.
Tá spiorad na mban chomh fuinneamhach – agus chomh dúshlánach le turas an tsaoil; chomh stoirmiúil agus chomh ciúin le farraigí ár dtírdhreach drámatúil san Aigéan Atlantach; chomh tiomáinte leis an mbáisteach; chomh lonnrach leis an ghrian; chomh dramatúil le radharcanna gruama ár dtimpeallachta; chomh spreagúil le sléibhte an iarthuaiscirt, chomh láidir agus chomh cumhachtach leis an tírdhreach lena mbaineann muid. Na banealaíontóirí i mbarr a réime; idir foinn thraidisiúnta agus ceoltaí nua-aimseartha ag comhoibriú chun d’aon ghuth chun Dún na nGall a cheiliúradh.
Is mná muid, is ceoltóirí, cumadóirí, amhránaithe, scéalaithe, filí, ealaíontóirí muid. Is coimeádaithe traidisiúin muid, cúramóirí ar na seanbhealaí, meantóirí dár n-óg, trodaithe ar son ár dtodhchaí, staraithe ár linne. Ach den chuid is mó, is mná muid a dhéanann ceol agus craic le chéile.

Wild Atlantic Women is probably the most diverse, honest and true collaboration of Donegal’s finest female artistic talent emerging to the forefront of the Donegal Diaspora and attention of National and International media this year, as refreshing as the salt sea air of our beloved coastline; as exciting – and as challenging – as the journeys physical and emotional we all take on the journeys of our lives; as paradoxically stormy and silent as the seas of our dramatic Atlantic Ocean landscape; as driven as the rain; as dazzling as the sun; as mellow as the misty vistas of our environment; as inspiring as the mountain, island, coastal and valley views from our home; as strong and powerful as the landscape we belong to.
Donegal’s finest female artists in a wide range of genre from folk to country, traditional to modern who have decided to come together and join our voices dedicated to the love of all thing Donegal.
We are women. We are mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, grannies, daughters, mentors, muses, wives, girlfriends. We are everchanging and all-inclusive. We are musicians, songwriters, singers, storytellers, poets, artists. We are keepers of tradition, carers for the old ways, mentors for our young, fighters for our futures, historians of our past.
But most of all, we are women who network to keep the grá of music alive, in challenging times, with online and physical concerts, sessions and of course our memorable ‘Wild Atlantic Wednesdays’, where even the ‘Wags’ (Wild Atlantic Guests) get a chance to share their music. During Lockdowns, we rose to public acclaim because of our internet songs and concerts.
In my role as Administrator and Director, I would urge you to visit my sisters in music, support their solo and band careers, follow our ever-changing narrative, for it’s an exciting, unique experience, and definitely brought Donegal music to the fore during these challenging times, leaving legacies of music, friendship and solidarity in a chaotic world of change and choice.
